Tonight, just for something different, I strapped on my acoustic, turned on the MBR and recorded myself in one "live" take singing this great song Van Diemen's Land.  I played and sang at the same time and recorded it through the internal mike into one track.  Keeping it real simple for a change.  I don't usually use my MBR this way, I usually get all layered and bounce happy.  Cheers.

I'm so glad you did.

Raw and direct. It speaks from the heart. I think that this is what music is about.

Is that a really good acoustic guitar? (like a Martin...). Because it sounds amazing - perfect tone and recording. It's very brave to do a single live take, but it sounds so natural and uncluttered as a result. Nice one!

Thank you 2cool, Flash and Greeny.  My acoustic is a Seagull Artist series, their highest end guitar  they make (still a great price at $1500 Canadian).  It was my christmas present to myself last christmas for making such good progress with learning guitar (I had been at it for a year at that point) and I wanted the best guitar I could afford.  I actually wanted a Martin, but the price was too high, then I tried this one and WOW, for the price it was exactly what I wanted.  After one year of playing it it keeps getting better sounding with age.  I was trying to see if I could get a good recorded take with just guitar and vocal, all naked and all.  There have been so many great recordings done on here this way I wanted to see if I could pull it off also.  Thanks for listening and commenting guys.

I've read amazing things about those Seagulls. There are some seriously good acoustics out there when you hit the £1,000 mark. Seagull... Collings... Simon and Patrick... I've got my eye on a few brands  ;)

It really sounds beautiful Bluesberry. I love hearing good guitars in the hands of someone who can play them well  :)

I think it's all the better for a one time live take with no bells ang whistles 8)

holdempok

had to listen to this again. This time in a quiet and unintrupted place and much more appriciated. Bluesy, This really sounds great. Song made me think of some things in my life that I am truly thankful for. Keep the songs coming. Who need the radio when we have this place.

Why don't we do it on the road?

Like Holdempok I had to listen to this uninterruped by work, kids, TV other music.

And it is so brutally honest.

I can see the man on the quayside, saying goodbye forever to the people he loves, unable to articulate the words he wants to say.

Delivered in a song as unspoiled by any post production technique.

This has left me breathless with a lump in my throat. Right now this is my favourite song.

I don't want to lose this moment.

let alone the fact that this song is truely a gem, your song has been downloaded nearly 50 times in less than 24hrs speaks volumes.
