I was listening to Jims M.T.C's instrumental Shadow of myself over on alonetone and it struck a chord and i came up with this one about lost youth..............
Shadow of a man (Lyrics)
As i look in the water i see a reflection of what i was
i see the strong man who could have done what ever he wants
life has drawn that youth away from deep within my soul
and now i'm nothing nothing but a shadow
if you had met me back then, you wouldn't know me for who i am
my mind was set on success the riches were gonna come
you'd have been so proud to call me a friend
but now i'm nothing, but a shadow of myself

respect i commanded, i knew what i wanted  i knew where i wanted to be
i had  dreams  ooh dreams inside of me
ooh how i wanted to be
but now, i can see my mistakes were so easily seen
now, i can see, all those things i was just a fool, a wanna be, wanna be , a wanna be
now i'm just a shadow, a shadow of the man who wanted to be

if only i could retrace my steps through time
spoken words to my younger soul
i could have stopped all that heartache and pain
i could of been

i could have been what i wanted to be
instead i'm stuck
stuck in the shadow I'm stuck in the shadow of what i wanted to be stuck in the shadow of what i could have been
