Next week I'll be on vacation in Manhattan... in search of lyrics (i.e. inspiration).

Any recommended sites?

I was there in the late seventies. One of the things I remember most is the subway trains. They're totally covered in graffiti, inside and out. Not just the old ones, but the new ones too. The graffiti artists sneak into the train yards and paint them before the trains even go into service.

Another memorable experience was looking out from the observation platform of the World Trade Center. Unfortunately, you can't do that any more.

Check out some of the famous music venues while you're there and see some great musicians. When I was there, I saw Billy Cobham at The Bottom Line in Greenwich Village.

If I had the chance to go again, I'd like to see Electric Lady Studios at 52 West 8th Street in Greenwich Village.

Staten Island ferry for a free trip around the statue of Liberty
Eat bagels - they are the best
Grand Central is very interesting coz its so familiar (the food hall is great, and the shoeshine 'boys')
Macy's is massive - gets older the higher the floor
There is a big guitar shop there
When I went - the bodies exhibition was there - hugely inspiring
Metropolitan Museum of Art was fab
Empire state is pretty cool
Walking around Central park at 5am was wicked (jet lag) - found a place that made a great cup of tea!
The shows are expensive - but absolutely fantastic.
New York public library is nice - and its by Bryant park - where you can eat al-fresco - brill
Statue of liberty is piss-ant small - not what you expect (I thought it was massive) - very much like Stone Henge which is also much smaller than you think.

Too be honest - you wont be short of things to do. Its a fantastic place - have a wonderful time - oh and ......
get ready to ROCK

Was there a couple of years ago the best view in the city was Top the Rock  (the Rockefeller centre) on one side was the Empire State and The Chrysler Building and on the other Central Park just a great view.
The boat ride from Battery Park to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island was cool too, just lots to see a great city, have a great trip!!

That's hilarious - Is that what Spinal Tap was getting at? Wish I could find a better photo:

My eldest's birthday is the on the Summer Solstice - she's always been a bit of a hippy child. She always has to go to Stone Hedge for her birthday. Watch the sun rise over the stones. Its the only time of year that you can go up to the stones.
Picture from eldest from yesterday!

Haha - kind of. I must say flying in to New York, was expecting to see a 5000 (at least) foot tall Statue of Liberty  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D When stood on the top of the empire state - looking for it and couldn't see it - Mrs B "Its there", me "where, oh is that it". I was disappointed!! Too many films portraying it huge - it colours your perception. Still, I loved the whole New York experience - and would go back there in a flash!

Similarly,  my mum has wanted to see Stone Henge for ever - and we don't live that far (40 mins in the car) - so we took her one day. Her comment was "Oh, is that it" - she was quite disappointed, I think pictures tend to make it much bigger that it really is - however, it is a magical place.

Hey fuzz there should be lots of lyrical inspiration there.

Go to Central Park West at West 72nd Street, directly across from The Dakota apartment, in Central Park, to the Strawberry Fields memorial. I imagine that should provide a bit of inspiration. Times Square of course would be good too. Take lots of pictures too.

Have a great time!
