Migs

I remembered one last night.

I staying was at a Hotel in Perth Western Australia back in the late 80s.  A few guys I was with decided they wanted to go to the casino and I was in charge of the team mini bus that day.

While waiting in the foyer I started chatting to some blokes who said they were in a band nut were about to head to the casino.  I offered them a lift.  In the minibus they offered me tickets to a gig they were playing the next night.  I declined because I didn't relly know who they were and I thought I had something else on.

Pitty I wasn't more in touch with Simple Minds in the late 80s.

I met Richard Butler (of the Psychedelic Furs), Bebe Buell (famous rockstar girlfriend), and Liv Rundgren (better known today as Liv Tyler) at a McDonald's in downtown Portland, Maine in the early 80s.

I was there with my friend getting breakfast before school, and we sat down across from a family already seated and recognized Bebe. We both kind of 'knew' Bebe as she was a fixture in the Portland music scene (what little 'scene' there was/is, that is...), and so we said 'hi'.

We noticed the gentleman with her in dark glasses was Richard Butler, and said 'hello' but he only nodded. But just a nod from the singer in the Psychedelic Furs was good enough - we were ecstatic.

We did not know who the kid with them was, although Bebe said her name was Liv. :)

I've interviewed many, many great musicians; more often via phone, email, or via audio files going up and down.
Sometimes I've met them, and I've learnt something from each one of them.

The most important names I can remember: Archie Shepp, Gato Barbieri, Charles Aznavour, Paddy Keenan, Mairtin O'Connor, Davey Graham, John Renbourn, Tommy O'Sullivan, Cathal Hayden, Kay McCarthy, Modena City Ramblers...

I shook hands with Bruce Hornsby in High school at a William & Mary football game my marching band played at. He refused to sign a dollar bill for me. I also met Juliana Hatfield from the Blake Babies, I shook hands with Elvis Costello during his North tour. My wife & I met Micheal Buble, & just a few weeks ago I performed for Don Miggs (the rock band Miggs) kid at his mansion /studio here in Tampa a few weeks ago & met his father in-law John Debartolo who used to own the 49ers & I should say he was/is very generous!

I shook hands with the man, who shook hands with man who shook hands with, THE MAN!! at the jazz cafe in London a fewyearsback. He played well, I don't rember his name  but it was a shame, because the man who shook the hand of THE MAN!! The man who we had come to see had gotton to old to play his guitar and had to leave the other younger fellow in his band to play all the classic rock n roll leads, but at least we saw him although we didn't shake his hand we just shook the mans hand who shookhis hand which had shook the hand of THE MAN!!...............

I've met all of Teenage Fanclub. We (band I was in at the time) were lucky enough to be added as a support for them at Sheffield Leadmill in 2003 for their greatest hits tour. We were invited for free to see them at Leeds metropolitan Uni 2 nights before and we were invited into their dressing room where they handed out free beer to us.

We then again met at the gig, great guys, very normal chaps.  :)
