I wrote this progression on uke to RTT's rock drum track (thanks man!) about a month ago and sent it to bruno to produce. He sent it to me this morning and it's like a whole new tune, so much better than I imagined it could have been! Thanks brother! So I put it on my walkman and wrote the lyrics driving to my gig this morning and recorded them this afternoon.

More To Life
music written by Rata-Tat-Tat, bruno & Hook
lyrics written by Hook
Where does the time go
& how does it slip away so fast
I don't want time to stop
But I'd like it to last
How do you hold on to
& keep it within your grasp
Maybe if I turn this hourglass
On it's side would it keep this time alive
& would we have the time to realize
There's a greater, more important part of life

More than just the words we choose when we fight
More than just the day turning into night
More than just a desire to be right
       There's more to life

Where does the time go
& how do we make the most of it
& when our time is shattered
How do we make the pieces fit
How do we make the pieces fit
Into something we can work with

More than just the promises we break
More than just all the things we take
More than just the smiles that we fake
More than just the bottom of my plate

I try to relate & I search for something to emulate
But I get all caught up in all the hate
It's like a traffic jam that I can avoid
So why should I wait
But the exit that I take is more a path
On a line that might break
It's no one's fault when the earth begins to shake
& the whole world feels the quake
& finally everyone's awake
& they notice all the beauty of each breath that we take
& I hope & I pray that there's more to life
Than just these day's

Yes - I love it. Great music, guys! And cool vocal harmonies, heck all the vocals were cool. Had kind of an early Chicago feel to them before Peter Cetera screwed everything up.

Sweeeeet!!

This is simply great Hook ( or the Hook-Meister from now) - love the lyrics, vox's and harmonies. It took me some time as I couldn't think of something to fit, so I let it rest for a while - and then came back to, really glad that I didn't give up on it. This is a real posative song  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

PS. First mix on my monitors before sending to Hook - Hook did the final mix  :D

first of all, great mix, really clear for so much going on.  And the drums sound so good here, right in the spot.  Simply fantastic guys.

Oh yeah...  Hook this is some really good lyrics... Has a definate Caribean feel to it. In a kinda funny way it's sooo up lifting, but the lyric isn't so uplifting... which to me is a great way to write.... Sublimish. I'm totally blown away with Bruno's skills in production... the mix is perfect in every way. The guitar is sooo smooth... and them keys totally take it to the moon!!! Love it guys... way to go.

Haha - Tod. Can't take credit for the final mix. I sent Hook the track - Hook did the vox and final mix and upload! Must say, having monitors really helps mixing though - I have been mixing on cans to date.

You must have enough tracks on the same drum track to release an entire album of songs now  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have to get me some good monitors sometime too... I know exactly what you mean... especially with mixing vox or any instrument that needs to "cut through"... I mix with cans and everything sounds perfect... then I play through my PA ....and the vox always seem to be in the background... especially if there is panning involved... Not sure why this happens... still trying to find that happy medium. What I have been trying is "Less Panning" this seems to help, but then I lose the stereo widening effect especially when listening back through cans. One day... I'll get it!!!!
