There are songs that someway can be considered "universal", and IMHO "Hard times come again no more" is definitely one of these. Although it was composed two centuries ago by Stephen C.Foster (1854), if I read its lyrics I can find it absolutely (and unfortunately...) actual...right in these hours, for instance, a large part of my nation is shaked by heavy heartquakes, but this is just one of the many, many problems around the world...think about Greece...Syria...

A couple of months ago I proposed James to cover this song, but I almost forgot it.

Now, in these last weeks, we all have read about the very sad events occurred to some of our Songcrafters friends...and probably this is the reason this song popped up again to my mind, so this is just our wish, our hope, that the worst days have gone.

Alfredo

P.S. please excuse my English
Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor;
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears;
Oh hard times come again no more.

Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh hard times come again no more.

While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay,
There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh hard times come again no more.

Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh hard times come again no more.

There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away,
With a worn heart whose better days are o'er:
Though her voice would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day,
Oh hard times come again no more.

Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave,
Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore
Tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave
Oh hard times come again no more.

Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh hard times come again no more.
Oh hard times come again no more.
hard times come again no more

Well done guys.

I didn't know this. It sounds so contemporary, but clearly timeless.

Played and sung with heart and feeling. James, I have not heard you sing as well as this to date. It fits your accent and range beautifully.

Alfredo, I marvel at your ability to produce tracks of this quality.

Splendid. I love it.

Good version, although I prefer the ones by De Dannan & friends...but the exciting thing, for me, is to know that in a Scottish pub someone's listening to us...  :D
