Ian Anderson is not only a great songwriter and musician but a great entertainer too. He has such vitality, style, and pizzazz! I'd love to see Jethro Tull live. I envy you.

How did it go?

I haven't been thinking about Jethro Tull recently, if I had I might have been wondering about getting to see this. I'd like to hear the new material.

I picked up the new album. its really rather good.  Ian's voice has lost a lot of the power it once had, but he sings well and the music is very good.  Old school prog and I love it.

Thick as a Brick 2- 2012 Guilford G Live
Sorry about the slight delay , i finished this at work just , hope there's enough here to get an idea of the night

Well , having seen Ian Anderson with Tull some forty years before , I was a bit apprehensive , but excited at the same time , the original lineup of guitarist Martin Barre, John Evan on keyboards and drummer Barriemore Barlow are missing , but his new band consist of keyboard player John O'Hara ,  guitarist Florian Opahle  Scott Hammon drums & David Goodier  Bass .
It's quite interesting because it  features  a more theatrical production with video & additional musicians , even violinist Anna Phoebe 'Skypes' a contribution in 'from home' on the back screen , where she alternates between holding the fiddle and her bouncing baby.
I feel that the time is coming when Anderson will have to give up his attempts to reach notes he managed with ease 40 years ago It would be charitable to admire him for trying, but perhaps more honest to say he falls flat on more than one occasion. Ryan O'Donnell adds vocals on the notes Anderson knows he can no longer achieve; O'Donnell played the part of Jimmy the Romantic in the touring production of Quadrophenia and he comes across much more as a stage performer/actor than a rock vocalist.
But all in all , Thick  as a Brick 2 is everything Prog rock should be , & we loved every minute of it , I think it stands up really well to the TaaB
original album , which they played in the first half of the show , the musicianship was outstanding . I particularly liked the keys , although the rest of the band excelled  also , Anderson played his little parlour guitar , along with his amazing flute renditions on most songs .
We  loved the theatrics of the piece also , opening with the band dressed in brown coats walking around moving things about & dusting stage instruments & props     , then  interspersed with Anderson  on the back screen dressed as the village squire talking about Gerald Bostock , the main character in the story .
I think most people came away with the same impression as us , which I would say was bloody excellent , I'm so , so glad I went

Nice Rob!

I love Jethro Tull too but haven`t listened in on them in a while but i`ll have to again...
glad you had a great time. I try not to judge older musicians. I can name a lot
that should have retired ages ago but its in their blood and not for the money.
That`s a good thing.

I`ll have to listen to the new CD! Thanks for the info!
