I did this song for a Neil Young contest. Figured I'd do a quick 2 minute version for this here festival. It ran just about perfectly 2 minutes (.387 seconds under, in fact.)

The first thing that hit me was the amazing sound of that acoustic , to my ears , that is the sound I would love to try & replicate , did you mic the guitar , or plug direct in , & what guitar was it you used.
The vocal was very energetic , not an easy song to sing either , got some quite high notes in there , all in all a great cover , and a good listen

Cor, this is a bit good! Like Rob, I can only marvel at that incredible acoustic tone. It's so full and warm, whilst providing all the percussive edge you need. Fine singing, fine playing. A winner!

Acoustic was my cheap(ish) Acoustic/electric Yamaha FGX720SCA (whatever that is) line in to the BR900 and the vocals were on the MXL v67g condenser. But it was recorded live in one take so the acoustic bled over in the vocal track. I did that on purpose for two reasons. One, it's easier to hit record and play and sing one time than to have to do it over and over again and two, that bleed over actually tones down the line in 'mechanical' sound while still giving a nice clear signal.

I recorded both tracks live in one take on the BR900 and then wav converted over to Reaper to mix. On the vocal track I used the ReaEQ plugin and high passed at 140 hz. (I high pass a lot of tracks betwen 40 hz and 160hz based on what sounds the best.) I used the FreeComp87 plugin for some very slight compression (to tame the very high vocals more than anything.) And I used the MDA delay plugin for a delay of 28ms and an effects mix of 40% with a low tone cut.
The acoustic line in track is as recorded. There are no plug ins.
The master bus has the FR Limit 87 (another free plugin) that is set to just barely have an effect. It just tames the track a bit because my vocals were so damn loud. In other words, I didn't track properly and had to fix it later with compression and the limiter.

Thanks much for listening and glad you like that acoustic tone. I've had lots of compliments on my acoustic tone but I use the simplest of methods. If I record vox separately, I'll generally the line in and a condenser and just mix to taste. Both of my condensers are inexpensive, but the mxl seems to be pretty darn good for the money. (I don't have 500 bucks to spend on a mic, atm.)
