This hits home straight away. Beautiful piano work and a sublime vocal. It's all it needs! Really beautifully done, and good to see the muse is still with you despite life's interferences. Got a big 'Hyacinth House' vibe from this one - know what I mean?! lol. Great work.

Hyacinth house was the muse......i was thinking on what it meant and how that feels not to know anyone who doesnt want something from you.....well spotted Mr.Green

There was a superb documentary about the 'LA Woman' album on BBC4 a couple of weeks back, and the lyrics of Hyacinth House really hit home when put in the context of what Jimbo was going though at the time - and how he was about to seek that kind of peace in Paris. Lyrics I can relate to 100% !

There's a Jim Steinman demo tape quality to this – like there's a big overblown Wagnerian rock version of this somewhere. But it works better as a single voice – singing to nobody, disappointed, dejected, betrayed. I really like how the vocal melody misdirects you. I expect a resolution, but the vocal leads you into a chord that only increases the tension – like a false friend.

Authentic, and well executed.

A personal note: Friendships between people in developing countries and people from rich countries can be complicated simply by the disparities – wealth, resources, mobility. You can be a lowly Peace Corps Volunteer in a country such as Cameroon, earning (supposedly) a similar monthly wage a host country national. And still people will try to ingratiate themselves to you, expecting some benefit. I have a friend in Cameroon, Ba Gre, a super friendly and personable guy (he co-wrote this song with me). And he has a knack for befriending foreigners. Once a mutual friend, an American, said to me, about Ba Gre, "He's the only Cameroonian who never makes me wonder what he really wants.

I need to check in on Ba Gre.
