First of all I have to thank Geo aka dobrodaddy for helping me on my first collaboration here at songcrafters  :) . His slide playing is awesome and helped to really set the mournful mood of this song!

St James Infirmary Blues has been covered by many artists from Louis Armstrong to Jack White. I always thought that this blues song was such a heartfelt song because of its theme of mortality and loss. So I put together an arrangement that hopefully conveys that. I recorded my 12 string and vox but it felt like it still needed something and Geo's slide work was that something.

Hope you like it.

I went  down to old Joe's barroom,
On the corner by the square
They were serving  the drinks as usual,
And the  usual crowd  was there.

On my left stood  old Joe McKennedy,
And his eyes were  bloodshot red;
He turned    to the crowd  around him,
These are the  words he said:

I went down to  St. James  Infirmary
To see  my baby  there,
She was lyin' on a  long white table,
So  sweet, so  cool, so  fair.

When will I ever stop moanin'
When will I  ever smile?
My baby went and left me,
She'll be gone a long, long while.

I feel so blue and lonely
What am I living for?
My baby she left without me,
Never to come back no more.

I try to keep from cryin'
My heart just feels like lead,
She was all I had to live for,
I wish that it was me instead.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I was really pleased with the collaboration, my first, on this song thanks to Geo. We tried hard to catch that emotion of sorrow and loss that this song is about.

ORH: "vocals sond remarkably like nick cave". I checked out some of Nick Cave's work as I had never heard his music before, and wow I do sound like him, eerily. Thanks.
