Quote from: Ted on November 22, 2022, 01:31:59 AMWow! Was this really released in 2000? It does sound like 1967. BRB...

So they had one recording session in 1967 (five songs), but released an album in 1990, and another one in 2000.

I first heard this on a Nuggets collection in 1983 or 84. It was a game-changer for me at the time, and along with the Nuggets and later collections dedicated to 60s psych, several doors were subsequently opened.

I did end up buying the 2000 release, featuring all their 1967 songs on a single 10 inch LP. Cool stuff!

it's like the Cars, Talking Heads and B52s had a mind meld and formed a band.... golly gee willickers this is really some slick stuff.... man alive...
It sounds like it could actually have sort of fit in right around 1976 when The Cars were just getting on the road big, Foreigner was a thing, Talking Heads just around the corner... that sax is so good... this is one really cool and very crazy band.... wow

I'm a civilian spouse tagging long on my
wife's business trip
she's a Live Nation music business executive

9:00 AM a movie producer drinking mai tais in the pool
A couple French rent boys snorting llello off a boogie board
An instagram influencer floating on a raft
her publicist follows her trying not to get her iPad wet

I'm sp glad I'm on the outside looking in
cause none of this ends well
It's like a dumpster fire but the worst amongst us
emerge unscathed
For bread and circuses they'll let us choose
which of them will live
And who goes to the lions

An NFT artwork conference here at the hotel
they got a sitting US Congressman in on the grift
"Smart NFT contracts gonna reverse
systemic inequality" haha
While making Sandhill VC firms a few trillion more

I'm so glad I'm on the outside looking in
cause none of this ends well
It's like a dumpster fire but the worst amongst us
emerge unscathed
For bread and circuses they'll let us choose
which of them will live
And who goes to the lions

A little taste of Gomorrah in Miami Beach

One of the things Oldrottenhead and I have in common is a love of the band Cracker. This is a new song by their songwriter, David Lowrey.

One of the sweetest voices singing one of the saddest of sad songs (What Then Is Love But Mourning):

(The video used looks like authentic late-mid-20th-century stop-action animation - and has nothing at all to do with the lyrical content. That is not so uncommon with youtube videos these days. The song itself is the thing...)

Cool song, Ted. And lyrically, it sounds at least semi-autobiographical. I used to be Facebook friends with David Lowery before he deactivated his personal account. His wife really is a LiveNation executive!

As with many songs covered by punk bands, I was familiar with the cover before I ever heard the original.
