I kept a log book of all my album purchases from June 17, 1974 to the present. So I can tell you that on September 15, 1979, I purchased the following four albums. My next purchase was on Oct 17, 1979. So 35 years ago today (Oct 4, 1979), I was probably listening to these four albums.

"Oxygene" by Jean Michelle Jarre
"Stiffs Live" by Elvis Costello, Ian Dury, Nick Lowe, Larry Wallis, and Wreckless Eric.
"Fight Dirty" by Charlie
"Obscure Alternatives" by Japan

Wow that is impressive, I can only look back at my amazon history :-)

So, as a teen, and 1979 - looking what was released, I would have been listening to ....

Tunes that my mum definitely knows by heart ...

Rainbow - Down to Earth
Gillan - Mr Universe
Whitesnake - Lovehunter
UFO - Strangers In the Night
Rush - Hemispheres

This is much closer to the soundtrack of my youth. Love Obscure Alternatives.

Greeny

I didn't buy my first album (Dare by The Human League) until Dec 1981(!), so was still listening to my Dad's stuff (Nick Lowe, Eagles, Stones, Dire Straits).

Someone did tape a copy of  'Kings of the Wild Frontier' by Adam and the Ants for me in 1980 though. I wore that out.

I listened to a portable radio under the bedcovers at the time. I can remember The Ruts, Siouxsie, and The Specials vividly.

Oldrottenhead

just heard first two official track releases from new twilight sad album. my god i can't remember anticipating an album coming out like this for decades.
