Hey guys, thanks for the input on this song.
I've taken another shot at it. Tried to even out the chorus in particular.
Added some bass and keys and punched up the over all mix a bit.
Still playing around with the intro

Hey guys.
I hope this post finds you all in good health and spirits.
Recorded on Br600. Acoustic and electric guitar through Br600. Drums and bass on the keyboard

This is what I was aiming for:
On the surface the song is about folks feed up with being cheated
on by their partners but underneath it's about folks being feed up
with being taken advantage of by large financial entities or corporate
institutions waving the flag while exporting their jobs overseas.

A Cross and Nails
By MisterNelson

Intro
It's a cautionary tale, of golden parachutes and nails.
The greed of entitlements prevails, above the swelling wails.
Of the many being stepped upon by the few dancing in the sun.
And in these streets the blood will run.

Verse
Down on your luck, a victim of deceit; Left you in pain and misery;
Tracked her down but it was bitter sweet; your best friend is the secret she keeps.
Good book says you ought to turn the other cheek. But the fire in your eyes says it ain't peace that you seek.
Someone has stolen the wind from your sails; And vengeance got you searching, for a cross and nails.

Chorus
More and more you take until there's nothing left
No second thoughts only the one for yourself.
You've earned the right to take more then you need
Judgment's coming and it's too late to flee.
We'll put an end to this tale upon a cross and nails

Verse
Small town girl, with big city dreams; Tempted by the devil, that man on the scene;
Promising the world if she is willing to play; He used her up then through here away;
Working on the corner, in the pouring rain; coming to grips with a new level of pain
A promise to the one who stole the wind from her sails; it won't be a rope but a cross and nails

Chorus:
More and more you take until there's nothing left
No second thoughts only the one for yourself.
Think you've earned the right to take more then you need
Judgment's coming and it's too late to flee.
We'll put an end to this tale upon a cross and nails

Bridge:
They're foreclosing on homes; after predatory loans.
Bailing out the rich; the poor stand alone.
Ready to go toe to toe and give as good as they get;
But it's hard to stand tall, with someone's boot on your neck.

Repeat Chorus:

This lyric is stellar and I really like the tune alot. You vocals work well and your phrasing is right on. I miss the clean tone guitar in the chorus and I would boost up the electric also. I'm listening on crap speakers but that great chorus seems to thin out a little. Great tune!!!
Rock on!

This is f*cking stellar, Mr Nelson! Soulful and groovy and with that lovely 'bite' of electric guitar on the chorus. That breakdown section with the distorted vocal and the bass guitar blew me away. I'm also a fan of no-intro songs - just straight into the goodness.

Another top draw classic from you. When's the album being released?!

Oh my what a beauty.

Damn Nelson another classic from you!! Those vox and harmonies are outta this world!!
What i really love is how that electric kicks in there. You`re playing is really branching out now
and of course your songwriting and lyrical skills are exceptional as always. I love it man!!!

Top stuff Nelson always love your vox, but here it,s your songwriting skills that standout, big up the guitars on the chorus, but it,s only minor, apart from that, this just quality, loved it!

Hey thanks guys.
The idea of someone saying enough is enough really intrigued me.
I'm looking for total contrast between the verse and chorus, musically.

Kari
Of course I think you are a kick ass musician and I really appreciate you taken a listen.

Jim
I just about feel out my chair, when that line came to me. I actually had to set my guitar down, i was so excited.
What can I say, I'm easily excited. ;D

Hook
It's not your speakers buddy... it's me. :D
I can't boost the electric guitar because then you really might hear my playing... my playing... me playing the guitar... brother it ain't pretty.  :-[

Greeny
The songwriting portion was suppose to be done but here we go again.  :-\
Of course the music isn't there yet but this rough arrangement has that contrast between the verse and chorus, that rocks my world.

Gnasty
I'm excited that you like it. The song spoke to me right off the back.
I think it could be something special.

You make the best music, bud!! I like that little vocal/bass break as well. Jeez the bass sounds real, never would have known - Might put me out of a job! ;D
