GurlFest (banner image missing)

Blooby and I chose this tune for the Gurlfest after much debate.  It's written by John Prine but Bonnie Raitt made it popular.  Susan Tedeschi does a splendid version as well.

For those interested the debate, I remember it (through a mist of alcohol) like this:

My first submission to the debate was "I Enjoy Being a Girl" from the musical "Flower Drum Song".  Blooby nixed it shouting, "I don't enjoy you being a girl! You're a drinking buddy! Man up!"

Then Blooby submitted "I Feel Pretty" from "West Side Story".  After what he'd said earlier, I wasn't feeling very pretty.  Nuff said.

There you go, distorting the truth again.  It was I who suggested "The Girl from Ipanema," and that's when you stamped your foot, put your fist on your hip and said, "Only if I get to do the frilly 'ahhhh' and 'ooohh' parts!"

So there. I'm off to shop.

Always impressed on how your duets sound as tight as one person playing and singing. The guitar really provides the support and the vocal is so worthy of being up front.  Great job on this one, an old favorite by Bonnie.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Excellent song choice, and helluva vocal performance, Lurker.

I did a deep dive into this song a few years ago – the John Prine version – to understand the history and meaning of the song. For all it's sadness, I find the song inspiring as a negative example: Don't end up like this woman! Don't be the cause of anyone else ending up like this woman!

What a smoking vocal not a easy song to pull off
