Rata-tat-tat posted this drum part last week and I can't pass up a gift like that. I wrote & recorded the uke part last Tues. in my car, the same session I did the 1234 cover. I had to set it aside until today and I put the bass part down earlier this afternoon. I wrote the lyric over the last few hours and just recorded the vocal and mixed/mastered.
Thanks Rata-tat-tat, this was great fun for me!
Tracked out like this
2 uke tracks
1 bass track
stereo track for the drums
stereo track for the vocals

"The Best Shade"
written by Hook
drums by Rata-tat-tat

Rogue baritone ukulele, Peavey bass

We skip along, say nothings wrong
We know it can't take long before we stop
It kinda feels like we've done this before

We shoot the shit, try to quit
Put a nickel in the jar when you don't stop
It kinda feels like we've done this before

We see what we want to see
                       Everybody sees something different
Everybody thinks something different is significant
We see what we want to see
Everybody sees a different shade of gray
Is it my fault that I see the best shade

We play the games, genetic strains
Better not snooze you only lose what you choose
It kinda feels like we've seen this done before

Chain reaction from a fraction of the faction
That writes the fiction that creates the friction
It kinda feels like we've seen this done before

                              Chorus

Damn this is good...quirky soul. It has a Blood Sweat and Tears vibe...very cool groove.

Wow. Loved it - really mellow! Loved the lyrics.

NB I used the same drum track, but it sounds and feels completely different - you really wouldn't know it was the same drum track.

And now Hook puts his hook into this and comes up with a wicked piece of music and song.
Those lyrics are amazing and how i`ve been looking at life a lot lately.

Really beautifully done. There's a lovely descending chord sequence that made me very jealous, lol. Great songwriting + a great performance + an excellent drumtrack = aural pleasure!

See what I mean Bruno... never know what your gonna get... Maybe we should link all of these trax together somehow so everyone can hear the different takes on these... I find it quite interesting to hear how people interpret these tracks. I'm also flattere'd that anyone would want to use these things... they're easy to put together... So hey why not... Think I'll keep em comming!!!

What a cool ass song. I can't decide what I like the most about it. The uke is killer, the drums are absurdly cool. That bass line totally kicks it, and the vocal is superb. Damn this is good.

Tod, I think that's a great idea, Check out how Sai used to do it...
