"Noiseless" microphone for shy singers?

I saw this on failblog.org. At first, I thought it was a bit goofy, but then I thought it might be good for singers who want to record at 3AM while their family is sleeping, or anyone who doesn't like people hearing them sing until the recording is finished. You could probably make something similar out of an old plastic bottle covered with foam and vinyl. And you could put one of those inexpensive electret condenser mic capsules in it. Not sure if it will add an undesired "megaphone" quality to your vocals, but it's worth a try.

Do you know one thing, 64chitarre?

Don't laugh at it...but until the half of last century, it was tradition here in Sicily to put in the brides' bed, for the first wedding night, a tube that inside was full of cotton. It was called "lungo a màtula"

Why?  

Yes, since usually the wedding parties were so full of lots of food probably very "heavy", and so...the tube had to be in the bed and put near the ass of husband and/or wife in case of strong...er...flatulence: this way farts were noiseless...   (probably).

Don't know why, but looking at that thing, soon my mind went to the "lungo a màtula"  

In recent years this tradition went lost, but the expression "lungo a matula" means now a tall, stupid man...
