Most of the Pub's in Alaska are supposed to pay the permit fee but never do. We often were told not to speak to anyone about our set list or why we were hired to play (A cover band)... of course I don't think there are many folks running around doing inspections in Alaska, but one never knows for sure!!! I'm not sure, but I don't think this applies to DJ's up here... since that is mostly what gets hired for pubs these days!!! Kids don't listen to live music anymore... give em a glow stick and some techno... they could care less where the music comes from!!! Pretty soon the record producers will be able to create the music the kids want to hear and they can eliminate the musician all together.... all the money goes to them!!! And they will rule the world... then...Chaos will ensue... bridges will collapse... skies will turn into firey plumes of hell fire... animals will turn rabid... Oceans will become stagnant... sky scrapers will fall to the ground... Kings will become Queens... The dead will awaken... Taxes will be paid in full... Homes will be burn'd to the ground... I don't want to get drawn into this but the artiste (did I mention I hate that word) is supposed to pay copyright (can't remember the exact term) if they are performing someone else's song, unless the song was learnt by ear and not via sheetmusic. I used to sing with a 4-part harmony group and we used to have to pay £1 each, + music to cover the copyright (not royalties), per song performed. Doesn't apply to public domain songs (ie songs where the copyright has expired) or your own original songs, obviously. Something along those lines, can't quite remember, it's been a while.

I don't do covers any more, except on here so it doesn't apply to me now and all my covers here by learnt by ear
