Having just sold my GR-55 with absolutely no regrets whatsoever , I'm now thinking of buying a Line 6 Pod HD-500 , at 409 of your English Pound notes , it certainly looks and sounds good on all the Youtube vids I've seen , but has anyone got one , or have any first hand knowledge of them , thanks

Robbie Burns

PS , got back all but £30 of my money on Ebay for the GR-55 , not bad for 8 months use

Hey Robbie,
A guy I play with sometimes  has one and it sounds great. It seems very complicated to me, I like my boss me-50 and was contemplating the gr-55, did you not like it? He loved his 500 so much he bought a line 6 amp after and he seems pretty happy with it all.
Good Luck!

The GR-55 was a bad experience for me man , i was positively chomping at the bit to get one last year , the factory presets are so over the top they are useless for recording , and trying to work out how to program your own patches was quite difficult , i wasn't able to fit the GK-3 pickup with the included bridge fitting ( doesn't fit my PRS Singlecut SE bridge ) and trying to get the double sided tape to hold the actual P/up on to the body was a nightmare , saying all that , the main problem was in playing style , i would say you need to totally rethink the way you play to get the best results , there is nothing more annoying than getting so far into a song , and then the strangest noise will come from nowhere every time , weird is not the word
Definitely go to a guitar shop and demo one before you even think of buying one , and try all the patches just to see how different you need to play
Anyway thanks for the reply man

Rob, I just sold my POD X3 Live after 2 years of ownership. While I loved what could be done with it, I just didn't use it much. In a nutshell, it's supposed to be an "all-in-one" Pedal board.

It does amp modelling, effects pedals, all sorts of cool shit. It's a friggin bear to come to terms with, and I'm a techie. When I finally realized that I would never use the thing for Live performance, that's when I decided it was time for it to go.

I'm torn whether I say buy it or not because that's a personal preference. All I can say is, I enjoyed it while I had it, but the money I got from it will go towards other gear that's more practical for what I'm doing now. If you had trouble tweaking patches on the GR, then the POD is going to be a challenge as well, but it will be more familiar to you.

Now the GR-55... I had the GR-20. HAD... I did get some decent recordings with it, and once I realized that you had to abide by the rules of the instrument that you were simulating, I came to terms with it. (example - you can slide on a guitar, but not a sax. You can however bend the shit out of the strings to simulate a sax). It was a fun toy, I got loads of enjoyment out of it. I did hate it when those random noises would ruin a recording as well. I don't think I would have ever considered using the GR-20 at a gig.
