This is based on Ry Cooder's theme for the movie "Paris, Texas" which was his take on Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark was the night (cold was the ground)".  I start and end w Ry's theme and put my own ideas in the middle sections.

The Weiss is tuned to open D maj, even tho the song is essentially in Dm.

I  double tracked the Weiss, put compression on both tracks and echo on one.  I don't think I crossed into overkill, but I'll be interested to hear what you folks think.  Thanks!  DD

Thank you gentlemen!  This one turned out well.

ORH: It's a real 1928 Weiss.  Got on eBay almost 10 yrs ago at about that price from someone who played it regularly.  It's got a couple of dings, but the tone is rich.   A lot of the tone comes from having a hollow neck, but not all Weiss's were built that way and a lot of repros aren't as well.

I've played a couple of the repros and the less expensive ones are ok, but don't have the same resonance.... the good new ones cost $2k and up.  You can get a lot out of an old acoustic and a nut riser for much less.  Let me know if you come across something interesting...  Cheers!  DD

What a sound! I've always been mesmerized by what Mr Cooder did on Paris, Texas and Southern Comfort. Great playing - really hits home. You'll never get a sound like this with digital modelling, that's for sure. You are one lucky guy having this instrument, but we're also lucky getting to hear it being used so well. Could listen to this all day.

Geo just fantastic, absolutlely love the tones you get, brilliant technique! And still love your humming!
Have to echo Greeny, I really could listen to you play all day

What a wonderful performance.

I thought you were going to break out into a holla at some point. :)

The instrument's tone is supple and rich and you slide across it brilliantly.

Well Done

Wow, this is a stunning sound with some beautiful playing. Such an evocative piece, and the fab tones of the Weissenborn (never heard of that before but know it now) are very well recorded. A superb listen, thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
