#6 submission for Protestfest . I must say this fest has been good for me, 4 originals and 2 covers not to shabby. I wrote this tune on Sunday, (sorry ORH to ride your "Eyes" theme here but who'd of thunk it!) and recorded LITLR it yesterday. 2 Tracks me and my mandolin; I think I might like to produce this tune but this take isn't clean enough. My big fat fingers often bend just one of the unision strings and well, by itself it's kinda dissonant, maybe, not horrible, but I tried to put a uke track on it and the intonation on some chords between uke and mandolin were just not acceptable. I really wanted to get this one posted before the fest ended tomorrow and I do like the performance of this take (it's the best of a few) so here it is.

"I See Eyes" a Hook original
written & performed by Hook

Rogue mandolin
I can see only as far as the eye can see
I look right & I look left, I can see what surrounds me
& I can look up onto the night sky
But I can't always tell the difference
Between a star and a satellite
I can see so clearly, so many things I can see
The birds & trees, the way they sway in the gentle breeze

                              I can see power lines
                              Telephone poles & traffic lights
                              & mounted with those guides
                              I see eyes

I can see from the roof of my home
An eye protected with a dark plastic dome
& I'm not paranoid that it's looking at me
But I think about the things that this eye might see
& I know that these eyes are there to try & save lives
But I wonder if big brother will keep his eyes on the prize
I think about the power and how it might be used
If the powers that be have powers they like to abuse

                         Chorus
It used to be you worried that the walls could hear
& as it always is they've taken every single fear
One step further, the ultimate breech
With a face and a name no one's ever out of reach

I can see in the ceilings that rise
The telltale signs of the spy's watchful eyes
& maybe someday I might grow to realize
The comfort they supply by keeping me in line

            Chorus

Not even a question how cool this one is - I get the smooth "hanging under a mossy oak" vibe! Spot on awesome singing too.

Triple ditto regarding all the cool uke numbers being posted. Keep rockin' it!!

Nice one Hook...your Rogue mando sounds just like mine!  You play better tho...

man you sure sound comfy beltin' this one out vocally..you sing really well and add alot of color in your phrasing

Liked the lyrics...never heard anyone sing about today's world of video surveillance at every turn

nice performance...ready to go at the local coffeehouse! (the beauty of 2 track songs!)

I agree the vocals are powerful, especially in the chorus.

A very creative and vivid write. Sign of the times, eh.

The mandolin sounds magnificiant.

simplicity can be marvelous.

Thanks for all the comments guys, glad you enjoyed it. I really like this song alot and new I wanted to write about stop light cameras and such for protestfest, but it didn't come to me until almost to late. I've listen myself many times today and of course I'm not overjoyed with my mandolin playing on this one but i thought I did pretty good on the vocals. I hope I'll find time to revisit this one and do it up. As always thanks for listening to my tunes!
Rock on!
