Wondering if this works as a duet song or if it should even be attempted as a duet. To me, it needs some low end, so I've been fiddling with a dropped-D version. Still wanted some input on the way it stands. I must say I do like John's singing here.

This would work great as a duet but what you have here is one mighty fine recording!!

Ditto what hook said , and what a terrific vocalist John is , he does make it sound effortless , also what jumps out at me is the clarity of this recording , of both the wonderful guitar playing and Johns singing , what's your setup here , oh , and thanks for the link you sent me , an amazing guitar player

John's voice is amazing here, as are your guitarwork!

It would be fun to hear it as a duet tho, we don't hear your voice that often ;)

Geir, when I say "duet," I guess I mean "duo" as in just John's voice and my guitar. I am still not comfortable with my voice.

Thanks for the input, folks.  Maybe I'm not sure about this tune because it's more of a groove (although I still think it's weird without much low end). I think we will end up sandwiching this inside a medley rather than have it stand on its own.

John is singing through an SM57 and a Boss VE-20 vocal processer, which is how how the last part of the "Doo, doo" sections were harmonized.  We sometimes pull it out of the signal chain, so it's certainly not a necessity. The guitar is a shallow-bowl Ovation.  I EQ out some of the bass frequencies on strummed tunes like this. I compressed some after the fact inside the recorder (BR-1600).

Mostly, I think any clarity comes from having limited instrumentation.  Harder to sound muddled if you only have two tracks with which to futz.

Thanks again.
