Hey all,
I'm trying to import some video from my phone (android) and need to convert it to wmv. Thought I'd ask if anyone was using a free video converter they liked and was safe to download. I use audacity and switch like alot of you and don't want something that's going to be a pain in the ass or screw up my computer.
Thanks,
 Hook

Glad my 3 hour search can benefit others! All those free trials are such a load, watermarks, half converts, I just wanted a program that should cost about $50 for free, is that too much to ask! Apparently not.

Hey Hook... thanks for the info... I've tried looking for some of those too. Found the same issues you're talking about... free trial... is a real crock now days!!! They'll let you try it for 30 days... if you can handle all of the spam they load your email address up with.  Only to find it doesn't perform as expected!!! I'll take a look at Frank's also... thanks for sharing guys.

As some of you know, I've been using ubuntu linux exclusively for several years now and I love it. So much better than Windows. In the linux world, there's no such thing as free trials because practically everything is free! For example, here's one of the free video converters available to linux users:

I don't know why you can't download it but it doesn't matter because it only works in Linux. If you're using Windows, you can't use it.

If you want to check it out, you could install Linux on your computer (without replacing Windows). There are a few ways to do that. Probably the easiest and safest way is to use the wubi Windows installer. Instructions for installing Ubuntu Linux with the wubi installer are here:

After you reboot your computer and run Ubuntu, you can install the Arista Transcoder from the Ubuntu Software Centre. You'll find the Ubuntu Software Centre in the launcher menu at the left of the Ubuntu desktop.
