Hello there,

Would anyone like to give me some feedback especially re the recording of this? It was recorded on a micro br and I'd be very appreciative of ways in which to improve the sound - some technicalities are hindering me! E.g, is there a way to get  rid of the noise of the record button at the start? Or the snippet at the end which I've tried to record over to no avail - i.e, it sounds clear until I upload it onto computer when I find it's still there.

New to the site, but looking forward to learning and listening over the next few weeks.

Many thanks.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is STUNNING !!!

All recorded on the microBR? You've sure got a good grip on the shiny little box !!!

The guitar sounds great and is so skillfully executed, and my oh my what a VOICE !!!!

To your question. Noises at the end and beginning can be removed in many ways. You can use the track editing feature of the microBR and erasing a track from one point to another (either time or measure-based) pg 56 in the manual.

You can also use computer SW such as the free Audacity to trim the final mix, or even edit each track if you export them from the MBR first and then import them back before the final mastering.

If you plan ahead, you can also avoid a lot of the noise by using the auto punch-in function on the mbr. (pg 46)

welcome aboard zencat, what a way, to make your entrance, a wonderful post.

regarding noise of record button when recording with onboard mic. another solution is to turn the input level down to zero using the dial at the side and recording over it on the individual track you have just recorded on.

for example when i record a vocal there is usually a click at start of recording when i hit the record button and at the end when i stop recording. so once i have recorded my vocal i turn the input sensitivity to zero. return to start of song keeping a note of when i started singing and record silence over the top of it, being careful not to record over my actual performance. then when vocal ends i record from there in the same manner to remove any clicks at the end. obviously if you record any acoustic instruments via the onboard mic you will have to do that for each individual track you record.

hope that is of some help. and you can also use the br wav editor software to import each track to a daw software like audacity or cubase and edit the individual tracks there.

Hello Zencat and welcome to the community.

I have to agree with the previous comments, you have a great voice and I'm impressed by the quality of playing and recording.

Some people export the WAV file from the MBR and edit the top and tail using something like Audacity which is a freely available download.

I hope you stick around, I'm sure that you will enjoy being here and I'm sure that there will be a number of poeple here that would appreciate a collaborating with you.

Thanks for posting this, it's a real beauty.

Excellent first post, Zencat.

As others have said, the best way to trim your finished song is with a WAV editor such as Audacity. Here's where to get it:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I'd recommend version 1.3.14 rather than the older 1.2.6.

Although you can edit MP3 files directly in Audacity, it's always best to work with WAV files. After you've finished trimming your song, you can export it to MP3 format from Audacity.

So, export your finished song to a WAV file from the Micro BR, if you haven't done so already. Then open Audacity and select "Open" from the File menu to load your WAV file.

To trim the clicks and silence from the beginning of the song, click the mouse just before the point where the song actually starts (at about 6 seconds in this particular song). Press Ctrl+1 to zoom in. This lets you see the start point more accurately. Readjust the cursor position, if necessary, then press Shift-Home to select everything from the cursor to the start of the recording (0.0). Press your computer's Delete key to remove the selected audio.

To remove the snippet at the end, press Ctrl+F to zoom out so you can see the whole song. Now click between the desired end of the song and the beginning of the unwanted snippet (at about 3:03 in this particular song). Press Ctrl+1 to zoom in so you can see it better (if you zoom in too far, you can zoom out by pressing Ctrl+3). Click somewhere in the wanted portion of the song (at 2:59, for example) and click the Play button so you can hear the song from the cursor position. You'll notice that the ideal place to end the song is at about 3:03. Click there, then press Shift+End to select from the cursor position to the end of the recording. Press your computer's Delete key to remove the selected audio.

You probably noticed that there are a few "pops" as the song fades out. These can be removed with Audacity too. Click just before the first pop (about 3:01) and press Shift+End to select from the cursor to the end of the recording. Now pull down Audacity's "Effect" menu and select "Click Removal". Set the threshold to 35 and the spike width to 40, then click OK. That will remove all of the pops except one big one at the end. To remove that one, just highlight it with the mouse and press Delete.

There's a bit of additional handling noise at the end of the song. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to remove that without also removing wanted sounds. In future, try to remember to let your playing fade out fully before pressing the Stop button on the Micro BR or handling it in any way. That way, any handling noise will occur well after the song ends and you can easily trim it off later with Audacity.

To export your edited WAV file as an MP3, select "Export" from the File menu. Near the lower right corner of the Export File dialog, you'll find a drop-down list which lets you choose the file type. Select "MP3 Files" from this drop-down list. Now click the long "Options..." button at the bottom of the Export File dialog. Set Bit Rate Mode to Constant, Quality to 192 kbps, and Channel Mode to Stereo, then click the OK button. In the Export File dialog, browse to the folder in which you want to save your MP3 and click the "Save" button at the bottom right of the Export File dialog. If the resulting file is too big, you can repeat the process but choose a lower setting for "Quality" to get a smaller file. Don't set it any lower than 128 kbps if you can help it as the sound quality degrades significantly at lower settings.

To upload your edited MP3 to Songcrafters, edit your original post at the top of this topic and un-check the current file attachment. Then click "Save" to update the post and delete the old file. Now edit the same post again and attach your new file, then click the "Save" button to update the post.

You can erase unwanted portions of a track with the Erase function (see pages 58 and 59 of the Micro BR manual). However, it's usually easier and more accurate to do it in Audacity.
