Social networks. Not for me. Ever. No interest.

Besides the fact that I don't personally know anyone there.
I can converse with total strangers anytime by randomly calling numbers in the phone book.

Easier than wasting time signing onto Facebook. Boring.
Use a phone. Much faster and more personal. A whole generation is in the process of losing the art of holding a conversation face-to-face with other people. Or even talking on the phone. Just gotta text somebody!

For the next 24 hours, try counting the number of people you see texting on their phones and tablets.
Post the numbers you get here. Consider it an experiment, viewed from the bottom of the Primodial Soup.

i've never went there for strangers, most no one has. you DO know people there, how do you think fb people found old schoolmates, old bandmates, old neighborhood friends, some even find family members they lost touch with. percieving it as going to nothing but strangers is incorrect. sure it can be if you let it.
phone is not cheaper, especially when friends or family do not live in usa. why do people assume once you use FB you give up people around you? are you serious?
personally i never text, i'd rather phone, but i dont want everyone i know there having my phone number, for some its best just chatting with them online, not giving out personal info like your phone.
downing something you've no experience in or even tried? like i said i can put up my music there, i have collabs with people there. its not much different than emailing, you type and chat, except not having to wait a long time for an email back.
some people you just dont want to get that personal with to give them your phone number just like some of your neighbors you wouldnt give it to. and unlike dialing up strangers in a phone book, most, if not all people you know there are NOT strangers. people i never thought i would ever hear from again for the rest of my life were found.
also the chatting that goes on in forums here and through the email is really no different, you are not on the phone with everyone here, nor do i figure you've given up your family or neighbors and friends just cause you come to SC.
its pretty simliar here, cept on a smaller scale. kind of a trip finding old school teachers and djs from when rock radio was great in the 70's. networking can be a very good thing. especially being a musician! collabs, exposure, talking to other musicians all over the world if you want to, no one forces you to, you can block anyone.
just adding some points, with all due respect!

I understand why people stay in touch through Facebook, especially if they have a large cadre of friends and relatives. What I don't get is this fascination with daily minutiae (and don't even get me started on celebrity idolatry). My girlfriend "checks in" if she goes to a restaurant (or other "interesting" place).  I had to ask her to stop doing it when I'm with her as I didn't want anybody knowing my business.

Phone call or occasional email works for me.
