UKULELE GAS -- or is it UAS??

My recording method for uke is pretty simple... onboard mic, fornylon patch, get the MBR as close to the sound-hole as possible. And plectrum all the way for me, as I have ragged, stress-bitten finger nails.

Take henny's advice though - he's the duke of uke.

Unlike mandolin, I find uke tuning and chords very alien to my guitar-aligned mind and fingers. I have the chord charts, but can't be bothered with all that (lazy git), so I just make up my own chords by ear and scribble little diagrams to that I can remember what I've played.

Quote from: Burtog on January 29, 2012, 11:21:57 AMSo is everyone going for Soprano?

There is also Concert/Tenor and Baritone.

I was kinda thinkin of going for a Tenor, I was hoping that my fingers would cope easier with the slightly bigger fretboard.
I have a soprano(GCEA) and a baritone (usually DGBE). I do like the larger size of the baritone and I found a set of Aquila strings for baritone to be tuned GCEA like a soprano and they are great strings like Henwrench said. The baritone has a much warmer full tone yet still has the same register of the soprano. Plus my clumsy fingers can do more. Definitely check out a concert or tenor if you can afford it, I was playing around at Guitar Center and it really did feel nice!
As far as recording I like to use my mxl 991(straight thin) condenser mic much like I mic up my banjo or really any other straight acoustic instrument. As far as holding it you just get comfortable and watch your right arm so it doesn't slide around on the body and create 'SHHHHH" sounds. No pick for me, I'm sure I would destroy it quickly, plus I love that finger strum/pick sound!

I recieved it today. Had to change the strings to left handed position. I was amazed how small it is!

I felt that it may be an "easy" instrument; each chord I played sounded good! I'm sure it will give much joy to me!
