Ukes are getting extremely popular on here and there is some great songs being uploaded onto the site.  I am seriously thinking about getting one, just wondered what Ukes everyone has, brand /cost etc, to give me an idea what to look at gettin.

I do have an old (very old) Keech Banjolele, it needs a new skin so am also lookin at gettin this fixed up as it has certain sentimental value as it was my Grandads, apparently it spent most of it's early life in pawn shops.

Not actually my Banjolele but similar.

ooops, forgotten i'd started a thread in 'other instruments' a while back but I guess this is a good place for those with Ukes to let the rest of us with GAS/UAS know what they have gone for.

I found a place called 'Highly Strung' seem like they have a big selection,...................some pricey stuff tho!

This place looks good too.

So is everyone going for Soprano?

There is also Concert/Tenor and Baritone.

I was kinda thinkin of going for a Tenor, I was hoping that my fingers would cope easier with the slightly bigger fretboard.

Mine is very similar to Geirs, around the same kinda price, I payed £38 for mine after 'graduating' up from a £17 one. The first thing I'd suggest anyone does, especially if they are buying a budget model, is CHANGE THE STRINGS!! Buy some Aquila strings, regarded as the best money can buy. These babies are also more than double the required length, so snip 'em in two... and hey presto... two sets of strings for the price of one. The difference in tone and play-ability is ten-fold.

  RECORDING YOUR NEW TOY...
When I'm buggering about on my uke, I tend to use my fingers to strum and pluck away, but when I'm recording it's a plectrum all the way, either a very thin plastic one or a very thick felt one. No preference, just whatever I can lay my hands on at the time. Using these settings...https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=9580.0...
I place my MBR on my right thigh, and using a Zen Buddhist technique taught to me by my grandfather, keep absolutely still as I'm recording the part. Or stand up and place the MBR upright on a shelf and get as close as you can to the mic. For this method, I will use an ancient Gurkha technique taught to me by my grandmother.

Why the Soprano? Simply because they're the only size available as an entry level. I've got my eye on a Concert model, and also about a thousand other things too...
