Alright now, I didn't vote for this fest and I wasn't particularly excited about it but I sure am getting a lot of mileage out of it. I think this is submission #5 to Protestfest and my 2nd attempt at "Guerrilla Recording", all done in the front seat of my car this afternoon. It's 3 tracks all through the on-board mic, 2 baritone Ukulele tracks, and one vocal. This is a different Uke than I have recorded before( I used it for lead once before but not rhythm), it usually is tuned like the bottom 4 string of a guitar(DGBE) however I found a set a of baritone strings  for GCEA like a soprano uke. It has the same register now as my soprano but has a much warmer tone. Also it has a larger neck which is just fine for my clumsy fingers.
I've been playing this uke part for a few weeks now and wrote the lyrics last night, inspired of course by the debates/state of the union/re-election mess we're in, here in the land of the free. I do feel a patriotic love for my country, but I have very little faith in career politicians and their ability to improve the actual State of the Union. Any how here's my little song, I hope to  submit it in the under 2 min. fest if we ever do that also.

They Speak
written and performed by Hook
They Speak

They speak the rhetoric, Oh so eloquent
Every nuance every trick, it's scientific
Carefully planned dialog perfectly phrased to roll along
Don't need to listen they can speak for you

Each one say's they can fix our problems
But our problems are 2 large for one man to fix
Each one say's they're the  best man for the job
But the best man for the job isn't even in the mix

They speak sincerely, enunciating clearly
Issues discussed nearly, the truth gets bleary
Expressions that are tried and true, reflect your own personality through
This soulless shell of a man that stands in front of you

                Chorus

They speak deception, claim o be the exception
An answer to this recession, a cure for all our depression
They all speak straight from the hear but politics is an art
And it's time for the people to re-write their part

Brilliant protest song, love the lyrics, very well done. I would agree with Henwrech, get those ukes higher in the mix coz they sound good!

Cheers,

great song hook and those lyrics apply over here too, and i mean for all parties over here.tho the tories here manage to keep their loony right on a short leash and muzzle, tho their outer fringes are nearly as nutty as the tea party.

Bring up the ukes! This bounces along beautifully. Sharp, poignant and foot-tappingly catchy. Mighty fine work.

Hook you are getting a lot use from your Ukes and they are sounding better all the time! Great protest lyric that ring so true. Your vocal delivery and tone is right on the money....and all from the front seat of your car...guerrilla recording at it's best!

Test, test, one, two, three.....is this mic on?

Thanks for the very kind words. This is a fine example of the occasional problem/? of weather to mix on headphones , monitors or other. I did this mostly through headphones and when I listened through on monitors I thought it might be a little vocal heavy but then listened in my car this morning and was very surprised at how quiet the uke was. Needless to say I will try to remix later this evening, thanks for the comments!
