This is an experimental jam with my Xmas pressies that turned into a song. I wanted to try out the Alesis Performance Pad for drums, so I jammed some simple chords and guitar lines using my other new toy, a Behringer US600 Harmonizer. I quite liked the chord patterns so I just added some bass, simple keys, a couple of lead guitars and a bit of extra rhythm. Drums were played live over the whole thing using the Performance Pad, although I did cheat slightly - the drums were recorded in one take and then the hi-hat/cymbals as a separate take, no way I could play all at the same time! I realised how hard this drumming lark is, even with a very simple drum pattern it's a bit ragged in places.

Kind of shoegazy post-rock that is a bit calmer than my other most recent effort. Hope you like it!

Cheers,

Nigel

yea, digging the slightly wonky verse chords, great lead guitar playing, has a fluidity that I can only dream about. And when you get to grips with drumming.... we got ourselves a drummer!!

Oh yeah i like this Nigel. Sounds heavy and those drums make it sound sweeter.

Very full sounding all around and love how the panned guitars are doing different things.

Love the licks! Did you use all your four fingers?  :D

Glad you`re back!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

- Henwrench, the harmony came over quite well. There's a slight detune on the harmony on verse chords (which are just E and A) so it gives it that slightly off kilter feel. ]

- Jim, you spotted the MBV influence, I listen to Loveless too often! But this is more like My Quite Nice Valentine as it has some accessible melodies!

- Gnasty, it was four fingers for the G and C chords in the chorus (yes, this piece just has four simple major chords!) and three for the solos!

- Hook & Henny - glad I pulled the drums off. I think I was able to get quite a nice sound from them, they do sound more realistic than programmed drums. The playing still has a way to go though....

Cheers,

Nigel

Nice job, Nigel.  The drums sound great!  Do you have pedals for the kick drum and hi-hat or did you just play them on the pads?  I'd love to get an electronic drum kit but I don't really have room for it, so I should probably get an Alesis Performance Pad.

Thanks 64G. No pedals here. No way I could play anything with my feet! That's why I did the drums separate from the hi-hat/cymbals. I set up the drum layout so that there was an empty pad between the kick and snare to minimize cross hitting.

BTW you can plug pedals in for the kick and hi-hat but they are not velocity sensitive.

Cheers,

Nigel

NB I have the cheaper one which has the SR16 on board. The more expensive Performance Pad Pro has the same pad hardware but an SR18 on board.

Very nice stuff from you as usual. Fine instrumental tune! I'm listening this second time via phones and I love the mixing. The lead guitar sounds stellar!! Thanks for the info of recording process, too (I'm googling all those gears). Alesis Performance Pad looks quite dangerous to cause GAS :) . Nice drumming as well...
