Three fingers or four?

Mainly two fingers, frequently three fingers, occasionally four. I have small hands, fat fingers and limited technique, so just use what works. The guitarist in my University band who was (and is) a stunningly good lead guitarist used all four fingers equally but he was a trained cellist so I am sure that helped.

Mind you, the two finger technique didn't hold this guy back:

..... and sometimes I force myself to use only two ... or even one finger ... just for fun ...

I've actually toyed with the idea of making a song where I only use one finger .... ;D

LOL, the problem I have is not the number of fingers, it's the number of notes! I only know a few basic scales so no matter how many fingers I use I still have a somewhat limited palette! Thank goodness for the Kaossilator, one finger and many scales!

drop the thick string at the top two notes bar chord with middle finger most of the time.tho use most fingers but my wee hawns mean i rarely use my thumb.
edit

just noticed the poll question,

prior to my lessons from the good reverend 48, i used to use one finger on one string  ;D when playing lead, but since my lessons i use 4 fingers and all the strings.

Thats Drop-D tuning, great tuning.  I like to do that too.  Why not take it a step further and tune to OPen-D, thats D-A-D-F#-A-D from thick string to thin string.  Then you lay your finger straight across the neck and you are playing a major chord.  Open its D, 2nd fret its E, 5th fret its G, etc....great tuning.  I have been playing around with it on my acoustic lately.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

BTW, I assume we meant soloing, correct? I use all four fingers all the time for chord work (unless only 2 or 3 are needed!). So for example I don't use power chords, I use a full barre chord with the appropriate three finger shape in front of it. But I suspect that is because I learnt the guitar over 40 years ago when there were no internet tutorials and I learnt my chords from chord books. I only found out what a "power chord" was about 1 year ago!!

Yes these guys do a lot of drop D Tuning on there songs. Days of the New. I think they even went a half step down too.
It can give a dark mood.

I love the first Days Of The New album.
