I don't have, and probably never will have, a high end sound-card, so for me using the 800 (or 80) as a soundcard would be my best option even if I chose to do the mastering process in a DAW or dedicated mastering SW.

How so? Surely if I take any line out from the PC it is going through the soundcard? Or am I missing something......

Sorry, I just realised this was what 64Guitars was saying as well.

So if I take the headphone/line out from the PC, is it not going through the soundcard?

You don't use line out - It would be similar to how a Tascam US 122 or 200 would work.

If you've installed the BR800 drivers, it should apper as an audio device on your computer (at least under windows) so you just have to select that as your audio device. (pgs. 119++++ in the manual, though not much info there!)

don't have the 800 here, but this is how the 80 appears:

This is something I was considering.  But what I need is something
to enhance the sound from my work laptop.  I have Windows XP and
no longer have any control or EQ when listening over the web through
different headphones and ear buds which all have their drawbacks.

Will something like this fix this problem?  Any suggestions?
