There's a personal computer about to make it's production debut. It's a credit card sized machine in a couple of flavours, with and without an ethernet port. It will retail for between $25 for the non ethernet version and $35 for the ethernet version.

It is known as the Rasberry Pi. Funny guys these computer geeks.

It will run Linux off an SD card and is powered from a USB power source such as a Blackberry charger or similar.

It will have USB, so keyboard, mouse, WIFI etc. will be available and video and audio connectors and HDMI.

Incredible?

For real - they are just in the middle of producing the first few thousand. They will go on sale late January.

Here is a link to their website. http://www.raspberrypi.org/

Imagine what you can do with a machine that costs $25. I'm already thinking Midi interface for bass guitar.....

They've been talking about this for a couple of years. Nice to see that it's finally being produced. The basic unit only has 128MB of RAM. I think that will only get you a text-based OS in most cases. A GUI desktop requires a bit more memory. There are a few stripped-down versions of Linux that will run a GUI desktop with incredibly low memory, but most of these don't support the ARM processor in the Raspberry pi. Still, for $25 it could be a lot of fun to play around with.

Not really; Windows NT4 only needed 20MB, early Linux with KDE or Gnome also well below 64MB

I just watched this video which shows a really easy way to build your own midi controller. Costs a bit more than $25 but it looks like a great way to build a midi controller.
