So I haven't done much recording with the banjo since my collab with Reg. I've used it live a bunch of times just playing 1-4-5 songs. Since it's tuned to a G chord you can bar the four main strings and play your major chords, but the minor shape I still find difficult so I wrote a song to challenge my fingers a little. The banjo and vocals were recorded live with 2 mics just before Christmas. It took many takes to get it right and I wish I could re-do the vocals but there is no clean banjo track and I can't get through it without singing it. I got a mandolin for Christmas and thought I'd give it a run so this my 1st attempt at recording it, I have no Idea what I'm doing yet but I love it! I've got a few chords down so soon I'll get to use the mandolin icon...who hoo! Got a uke too but sadly only one icon at at time. Hope you enjoy, happy new year!

I don't have the words to comfort you
I don't know the scriptures to point you to
I can't see the future, I've no great insight
When I try to predict I'm never right

& I can see that you are strong
Your faith will guide you through
I know there's so much more
that God has planned for you to do
For every flame that disappears & leaves you in the dark
Search your heart you'll find a spark

I wish I had the means to do more
More than just thoughts and prayer,
If you need me I'll be here, that's what friends are for
But I don't seek out ways to really impact lives
& from what I've seen you do yours is a light that should shine bright

        Chorus

Place me like a seal over your heart
Your love is strong it burns a brilliant flame

I don't have the words to comfort you
I don't know the scriptures to point you to

       Chorus

Yeah, I really like this song.  The banjo sounds wicked good here....clear and punchy.  That banjo fingerpicking thing is bloody hard, much harder than guitar.  I really, like this one.  What banjo chords are used here Hook, if you don't mind my asking.....

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

This is really unusual, not what I expected for a "banjo" song. I like the mandolin additions and the whole direction of this piece. Really unique and very enjoyable. I thought the vox were pretty good myself!

Cheers,

Nigel
