I don't have an iPad but a few interesting iPad apps were mentioned in this topic:

If you want the iKaossilator, act fast. The price will double after Dec 31.

You could have had Animoog for only £0.69 a month ago. It was an introductory offer. It's now going for £6.99. But that's still a good price as it's supposed to go up to about £19 ($29.99) soon.

I just started using Progression for Ipad and I must say, after the initial learning curve, I'm finding this app very useful as both a composing tool and a learning tool. I have never been that familiar with notation, I've always been a tabs guy though, and now, having the advantage of having both in front of me as I compose is allowing me to take explore music in a whole new way.

check it out. there's a free version:

There is also Notion which puts an entire orchestra at your fingertips. It has excellent audio samples recorded at Abbey Road by the London symphony Orchestra.

Dunny, it's incredible how much the world of music apps is growing...

there is something for everyone, try to look for, in the Apple Store, the name of whatever instrument, it may be harrmonica, sax, trumpet, celtic harp, fiddle...well, you will surely find an app for it.

Apart all the ones already quoted here, I would recommend to try:

Sonvox
Sunrizer
iElectribe
GrooveMaker

I have always been much more of a hardware guy than a software guy when it comes to music, real instruments, an actual keyboard, connected to an actual hardware sound module with twiddly knobs (preferably analog), Boss recording machines........etc.....well you get the picture.  I try to stay as far away from a computer as I can when I am making music......................but.......................these I-pads and the apps that are being developed................they are making me re-think my way of thinking.

The IPad is where hardware and software combine for the first time into a seamless world of music making.  I am getting hooked on this concept big time.  This is history folks, life changing stuff we are seeing here.  This little device will transform our whole world.

Must resist....bought too much already this christmas.......frying pan time...........but hey, my birthday is coming around in a month of so..........hmmmmmm
