Couldn't figure out what song to submit for the city fest and this one one popped into my head this morning. I figured it out and recorded it this afternoon and a bit tonight.

This sounds great, I dont mind a bit of counting crows. I think you sound more like Tom Petty than the singer of CC (dont know his name), which is a good thing. Guitar work was also great.

How do you do the drums?

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I have always done a few Counting Crows songs, if you're gigging out people love "Mr. Jones" & "Long December". I had never played this one before but I like the song now (original version & mine) better now that I've listened to it in the car, mp3 headphones, etc; I'm pretty happy with it.

Sorry for the delayed response Burtog. It's all on the br900. I usually make a scratch live guitar (direct) & vocal on 1&2 to a metronome, giving at least one measure open , then I go to the edit arrangement place (S001) and pick out pre-set rhythms  and use the measure numbers to guide me, pick out a rhythm, exit, listen, change rhythm, exit, listen etc..  for each step. Once I know the basic rhythms for the song, then I hone in on the measure before chorus and out of chorus for fills, some fills are 2 measures lone keep that in mind. I also like to use intros and endings as fills or sometimes bridges. It's alot of scrolling around but I'm pretty good at it I think. Miami took 45 min - to an hour (whole recording about 4 1/2 hours- 2 sittings). Important thing I've found is to change things up through out the song, don't just settle on 2 rhythms , pick fills from different rhythm patterns. Then last three times through the progression of Miami I use a different rhythm each time to try and create a building effect, the hardest thing for me to do with what i use., Then add reverb!
I then usually start with a new rythm guitar part so it fit's the rhythms and fills and I ditch the first two tracks ...most of the time(v-track if there really good performances and recorded well).
This was a little long winded but perhaps someone might find it useful or advise me on a better, easier route.
How long does it take most of you to make a drum pattern?
Thanks again for listening!
