the tiny brown wren
so small but so loud
its voice fills the woodlands and moorlands and farms
its beautiful song
so vibrant and full
it shakes with the effort to sing

they run and they run
never seeming to fly
hop into the air
in quick short gliding bursts
in straight flapping lines

they eat insects and spiders
from the cracks in the wood
and bricks and the mud and the grass
they rareley take food from bird tables too high
but normally eat from the ground

maybe half a dozen eggs in one small nest
their mothers too busy feeding the chicks
to eat themselves

almost round with short wings

fantastic writing fellas - painting a picture in music just brilliantly! We had Swallows nesting in the garage over the spring/summer, and it was fascinating (2 batches of chicks), watching the parents working their socks off to feed the chicks, to the moment they flew.
