Taylor GS Mini Acoustic Guitar

I've been wanting a new, decent acoustic guitar but one with a
smaller body....such as a concert style body.

I've been reading about the new Taylor GS Mini which seems to fit the bill. It's
not really a mini guitar but it is a 23 1/2" scale. The reviews I've read rave about it
having a full sound for a smaller body guitar.

Another neat feature is that it is engineered to accept an optional sound hole
magnetic pickup especially designed for the GS mini. There are some brackets
that allow the pickup to snap into place.

I've also been wanting a guitar with a magnetic sound hole pickup for a
different plugged in sound. There aren't many of those offered these days. I
think Fender and Epiphone do but not many manufacturers do.

The GS Mini is $499 and the pickup is $99. So for $600 US, I could get a good brand
that seems to meet my needs. I'll have to go demo one at G.Center before I truly
decide.

Has anybody seen or heard the Taylor GS Mini?

Hey thanks Jean-Sebastien...that was very helpful! The more I find out about the GS Mini the more I'm liking it. The pickup sounds very rich through the amp. Now I need to go play one at the music store. Thanks again for posting the youtube review!

I use the Taylor Big Baby.

I will never let this guitar go.

I systematically tried every guitar in the store, and the next one that sounded as good cost 4 times as much.

It blows away everyone who tries it.

I tried the GS mini at a music show last year.  I was very impressed.  I was looking for a good quality smallish acoustic for my son.  Its sounded as or good or better than many full sized guitars.  I have not yet found the $$$ to buy one and my son has since had a growth spurt, so not as much need.

I recommend that you try one.  The custom pickup set up looks good as well.

Another small guitar to try is the mini Maton.  These are often seen in the hands of accomplished guitarists here in Australia.  They are favoured because the have a big sound but don't have feedback trouble when played loud through an amp.

Fuzzface - The Big Baby was another one I've been looking at. Hopefully they'll have both in stock when I go to demo the GS Mini so I can compare the two.

Thanks Davidsen - That was a great in-depth review on the GS Mini. It confirms all the good things I've read about them.

IanR - I watched a couple pf youtube videos on the Maton mini. Another nice looking and sounding guitar! I've heard of the Maton brand but have never seen or heard one. They look to be very nice guitars! Thanks for the info.

Ian has made a fine suggestion.  Thole mini Matons are a superb guitar.  A friend has one so I have played it several times.  Would possibly be my next guitar purchase.  They are also just a heap of fun to play for some reason.

After playing one for 30 minutes, I purchased the Taylor GS Mini acoustic guitar. It sounds amazing....like a full sized guitar and is very comfortable to play. I think the deeper body allows it to project the lower tones that typically get lost with smaller body guitars.

I was able to get $70 off the price so the quality versus cost was real good. I can't wait to record something with it!

I still need to get the factory pickup for live performing  but those are available on Ebay for a decent price.
