Cake(walk) TV is also a good starting area http://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONARU.aspx/Get-Started.

I also use SONAR X1 LE, and if anyone has any questions, just post here.

It's my retirement project. Some very cool stuff I could never do on my BR but some serious frustration. There are lots of knowledgeable, helpful guys but an all-new terminology really confuses things.
Quote:
"Then in the context of your mix, the overall "wet/dry" ratio will be determined by the bus send control (from each individual track that sends to the reverb) and the bus volume control (which is controlling the overall wet "return" signal going to the master. The wet/dry ratio also depends on whether you have selected "pre" or "post" for the buss send. It is usually best to set it to "post" because this will mean that you'll be able to tweak your mix with the track fader, without changing that tracks wet/dry balance. For example, if you increase a track's volume from the track fader, then the send level is automatically increased if you've got the send on "post", so the right increase in reverb level happens automatically. Similarly if you do an automated fade of a track, the reverb (wet signal) will fade at the same rate as the dry signal (which is usually what you want)"

got it??

I just wanted to learn PC recording. I did start with Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/, whcih helped me to understand Live & SONAR, but recording with either my BR-800 or BR-1600 is much easier.

Definitely easier. I love my BR800 for quick and easy.
After a while tho, I start hearing little annoying bits that need to get edited on a track by track basis.
Also cut and pasting and other major changes are better done visually IMO.
I used to use Audacity with great results for track edits.
I have faith that once I get my head around sonar's more elaborate options, my songs will become more pro sounding. Maybe, just maybe, I might think of selling them at some point.

I actually got it ;D
Seriously - I hated those PC programs before being afraid that is too complicated. That's why I bought the mbr!!!
But now that I upgraded to the frustrating BR80 I was kinda forced to look into what this Sonar thingy has to offer.
It turns out it is fantastic and not that hard to figure out at all.
The example above (Glen's post) is actually easy to understand when you take few minutes to read about the concept of using busses. Actually, if you want to keep it simple - music can be mixed and recorded without assigning tracks to busses.

Sonar gives us br 80 users what we have been blatantly robbed off - record dry and then locate different effects.

There are many other great options in the program which I don't know how to do and i will be placing my questions here. Thanks for these links also - I sure will be checking them out.
