U2 have already confirmed this song is about Judas' treason and how he still attended forgiveness.
Despite religious issues, I like this song for the subjects it brings: friendship, betrayal, guilt, forgiveness, and last but not least, the end of times! Powerful, hein?

I wanted to keep the same spirit of the original, so I kept the tempo and guitar riff; I also gave a "mephistotelic" approach to the vocals, something Bono also does, but then I did all these experiments I like to do:

funky drums and bass
bass solo with 2 basses (3 if we count the main one)... well I recorded 2 takes for the bass solo. While mastering, I noticed that the 2 takes together sounded very well, so I kept them both.
I also added a 2nd voice, quite distorted for no reason other than liking it  ;D
There is also some "new" gear... a alreqady vintage Roland JP8000 I traded for my (former) microkorg. When I look at all those knobs, I still feel "like an ox staring at the palace"

Everything was recorded with the BR80, but mastering was done with energyxt2.5. I think I may have added too much compression, and I also think the main bass loses definition, since the medium frequencies are a bit saturated (don't know why  ;))

So... nevermind the bollocks, here's dasilvasings

My favourite U2 song, and yes the lyrics are inspired by Biblical events while simultaneously impactful in a lot of contexts.  For me it's about how to view the demise of a relationship/marriage in relation to cosmic universal issues.

Great job!  Although I am at work and got interrupted 3 times during my listen so I have to back again.

But it's clear you have done this number justice!

hey, U making me listen to U2 (and fenderbendr's to blame to) - and find them interesting. I tought i was saved, and I'm captured after all these years ...and amazing sounds (what's that Roland JP8000 ? a synth?)!

Very very cool DSS, especially the ending with the discordant synth coming in, very nice touch! You have definitely put your own stamp on the song...enjoyed your vocals as well, and learned a new word - "mephistotelic"..gonna Google it in a minute!

really enjoyed it, fab cover!

Thanks guys for listening and for your comments!I'm just your humble servant!

Andy, I'm not sure mephistotelic exists at all! It should be referring to mephistopheles, which is a charming, polite, even seducing devil. Googling mephistotelic is a bit numptisotelic  ;D

Maxit, I'm feeling the same. U2 deserves another chance. In my case, U2 has become so mainstream and mediatic that annoys me a lot, but they do have great songs! And the JP8000 is a synth released in the 90's. It was one of the first "analogic-digital", it means it is digital, but it was designed to sound and work like analogic synths. Not very good explanation, but I'm still learning!
