Problem with built-in mic

Hey, I recently bought the Micro Br. Everything was going great but I've ran into quite a big problem. I record with the built-in mic, and for some reason over the last few days the volume of the pieces I record is greatly reduced. I'm not sure if the mic is broken or not. When I tap it, its sensitivity is far less than it was. Also, the "over" sign appears at far lower volumes than before.

I record at quite high volumes, could I have damaged it? And if so, any recomendations on what I should do? Perhaps an external mic would work?

Happy New Year...

1st thing to check would be the INPUT sensitivity and INPUT level. Maybe you accidentally changed them?

An external mic would work. When recording at extremely high volumes, like at band practice, i find that dynamic mics like an SM58 do a better job of not getting distortion from the excessive noise since they han handle much higher noise than condensor microphones. Thing is, a mic like that sounds best with a lots of gain in the pre-amp stage so you would be better served using a seperate preamp like from the PA Mixer, or better. With that said, a condenser mic picks up more detail but you have to find a balance somewhere...
