Two thoughts:

1. In general, I seem to find that men are attracted to gear and gadgets.  This site is very much about that. 

I'm sure there are lots of women writing songs but I wonder how many of them own a recorder to enable them to upload their work to this site.

2. The lack of women here also might have something to do with the boob photos that were very popular on the site about 12-18 months ago.

They (the boobs) might still be on the jokes page?  I don't look at that, so I'm not sure.

Well, good point, but I'm not so sure about that. Before the boob phase, only one woman was active on this site. The main instigator of the boob phenomenon apologized, and all was good until subsequent issues took place.

I think it's because we don't do anything to promote a broader subscription, which may or may not be a good thing. This site initially grew from technical support searches. I don't know if that is still the case - Maybe things have changed now.

for me, i found this forum by an old friend, chris v. he said they would probably listen to your music, they're a bunch of nice guys, they seem fair and honest about what they talk about, and i might be better off getting fellow musicians to comment on my works, than fans or family or friends. it all sounded good to me and here i am. presntly im having less and less time to be here or even make much music, happens every year towards this time of the year. but i'll catch up when i can.
