Guitar input options...

What else (if anything) can I plug into the guitar in on the BR?

Not sure... but I'm guessing keyboards would be OK. I did this on my old Tascam via the guitar socket, and it sounded fine.

I think electric violins, cello, banjo or any accoustic instrument with electric pickup will also work fine. I'm not sure if the line in input wouldn't be better for keybord though.

The question is what do you want to plug in?

i would like to plug in either of these...Roland SP-606, Korg Micro X, or even a laptop running Reason (1/8in. male [headphone out from the laptop] to 1/4in. male (guitar in on the Micro BR)...

It's just, I am a hip-hop guy so I don't really use real guitars (only synth guitars/samples) and I would like to enjoy being able to record vocals and an instrument simultaneously like the guitarists are able to do with the Micro BR.

Recording simultaneously is not the best way to use a multitrack recorder. It's better to record each instrument or vocal separately so that you can later edit and mix them independently. The SP-606, microX, and your computer's sound card all have stereo outputs that would best be connected to the Micro BR's Line In.

I understand that it may be "better" to record one track @ a time, but, "flexiblility" is key...

I'm still going to try to plug other stuff into the Micro BR's "guitar in"...I just would hate to see an input go to waste, just because I am not a guitarist...

Being able to record simultaneously with the Micro BR's internal mic AND another source BESIDES guitar would put the machine on another level...

as in, one could record ANY (within reason) input source along with vocals...

Why would Boss discriminate and make a device that only / mainly caters to guitarists??? what about everybody else??? electronic keyboardists & vocalists for example?

sorry for the rant...

Ok...

The Micro BR handled the task perfectly...

you CAN plug other devices into the GUITAR IN...

and once that connection is made, you CAN record with the internal mic to the same track as the input source...

Mono is the way to go if you plug in a synth or a sampler to the GUITAR IN...

Why not get a simple mixer and use that to get a balanced sound for multiple instruments to the line in of the BR? I did this when I recorded drums (Alesis SR18) and Kaossilator on my little demo (see "Unicordia" in the "Post Your Work" section). This allows you to mix and eq the sounds to get a nice stereo track (of two stereo inputs in my case). I then added more Kaossilator on a couple of other tracks and bounced all four into a stereo pair for the final mix. If you are using electronic instruments this works well because you probably won't need to add any effects on the BR.

I used the Tapco Blend 6 mixer. This is a cheap piece of kit and really good quality, with a couple of mic/instrument inputs and two pairs of stereo line in inputs.

dude, you are totally right!!!

the only reason I even brought up the "guitar-in" was so I could record instruments AND vocals simultaneously...but, in retrospect, NOBODY DOES THAT when you are recording...

a mixer connected to the stereo line in is filthy...meaning, this device is INSANE!

you can mix your tracks through the mixer, record those tracks once you get the levels you want, and then lay down your vocals! all in 4 tracks!

this device should be taken seriously...I think that most people, at first glance, under-rate it...
