Micro BR Reliability

Hi all,
yesterday I tried to create a new song onto my 1 GB card used without problems to manage 2 previous songs.

After the last Ok while creating the song, the display said "Card Read Error".

No way to read the card anymore, everything was lost; the Micro BR "wanted" me to format the card.

Before formatting, I tried to read the card with my PC (via card reader) but nothing to do, the card was unreadable.

So I formatted the card with the Micro BR... I have the backup and this is not a problem but I have a concern so far onto the reliability of the Micro BR.

Simply trying to create a new song I lost everything, I am a little bit perplexed.

I read past posts about similar problems but I used always the Micro BR with the original Boss Power Supply and it was the first time I saw a "read error".

Thanks

You might want to try another memory card. The card you're using now may not be fully compatible with the Micro BR. Did it come with the BR or did you buy it separately? If you bought it separately, did you initialize it in the Micro BR before you started using it? Some cards come pre-formatted, but it's always best to initialize it in the BR anyway before you start using it.

Man, that just happened to me at my last band practice. In my case though, it was completely my own fault. Dont ask why or how, but i basically opened the battery door and took the battery out while the MBR was still on. Dont do that. I know better now of course... =)

Thanks 64Guitars,

It is a new one, I bought separately.
Yes, you could be right, I would like to test other SD cards but in the manual there is no list of compliant SD cards tested and approved by Boss.

Yes, I initialized my SD card in the Micro BR.

So the question here to all could be, is there anybody who didn't experienced *any* strange problems with his SD card?
Which SD card is?

Just for the record, I used to have many such problems from trying to cram and edit too many songs on a card.  It seems even if you have half the card memory left that it may not be enough for the editing, mastering, etc. you want to do.  After reading everything I could on it here and elsewhere, if you avoid the following you shouldn't have any errors again.

Use a good, fast card (watch out for fake name brands as well)
I use a "real" Sandisk Ultra II 1G with good results.

After editing and ready to bounce or master, use the song optimize function to free up fragged song memory.

I also play it safe and turn off the unit at this point, backup and go from there.  My problems usually happen when trying to bounce or master with too many songs on the card.

Be real careful about editing stereo linked tracks.  It's mentioned in the manual about recording to stereo to not link the tracks until after recording them but if you have them linked and try to edit just one side in any way, things get real messed up.

Sorry I can't be more specific but the results are corrupt and/or disappearing tracks that can not be fixed. (at least I haven't been able to)  :-\

As long as you work on the stereo pair with 1-2 or 3-4 shown in the edit track select all seems fine.

Hope this helps some.

I agree with Hardlock. I occasionally get errors but only on bounce or master. Cleaning up does fix it. Saving is hard to remember but pre-bounce is a very good idea.
The other common error message is when trying to read other than MP3 or Wav formats I've imported but that is solved with free conversions programs.
