A few weeks ago Geir made a comment on one of thetworegs tunes and it really stuck with me. i thought about that phrase "the basement of weirdness & wonder" and about the eclecticism of compositions from so many of us (known and unknown). Then I thought of Tom Waits... and then I thought how I've never tried to tap into my own inner musical weirdness. Anyway I left my comfort zone and tried to do something a little different. It is certainly not a commentary or reflection of anyone in particular but just an inspiration from a casual comment. Enjoy (or you might not i don't know.)

The Basement of Weirdness & Wonder
piano,banjo,bass,harmonica,vocals- Hook
Deep under ground
no real light but what sound
the basement of weirdness & Wonder

The cellar door squeaks and
the pipes bang the beat
accented of course with a
crash of thunder

Down the stairs into his head
as he channels the dead
inspiration from the here & the after

An endless supply
this well never runs dry
he slices his pie
& shares with other crafters

The people upstairs
are all really quite scared
the moans & the cries
make them fear for their lives

I love it too!  Surreal yet serene and splendid. Love the chromatic lines at the end.

Marvelous.

release your inner weird as much as you want Hook man, I absolutely love this.  Your vocal treatment is perfect.  that harmonica just about takes my head off.  Damn fine, killer, inspired track.  You got some kind of fine mood captured here.

Wonderful and weird Hook! Perfectly spooky and haunting harmonica. Your vocals and melody make the song inviting yet strange......I think this is a great song for the Halloween season.......Nice work and let that inner guy out more often!

Very very good.

A bit of a shock to the ear to start with but I really got into it.

I think Tom W would suggest that you could add some found objects to the mix.  For example you could whack a boiler with a pipe or wobble some sheet metal or something.  It would be cool to hear some more metallic percussive sounds such as those in the song.

I like your weird side.
