This is a bit unusual for me.  I seldom write pieces in major keys, but this was a deliberate attempt to come up with something a little more upbeat.  At one stage I thought it might be a little Allman Bros-ish (in my dreams!), and then it came over a bit Glen Miller, and as usual I didn't know when to stop.  I tried to go all Brian May!

The other thing that is a bit unusual  is I strummed an acoustic in places.  I treated myself to a new condenser mic and I used that along with a DI feed to record my old Ovation.  It's well down in the mix so you might not hear it.

Anyway - Jessie's Song

Blimey that was quick Rob!

Yes, it's all me, apart from a lot of help with the drums.  I used a couple of midi arpegiator patterns that I found in my Motif XS - like the funky bits under the wah guitar sections.  The rest of the drums I played in sections on the keyboard using a bit of help with quantize on the kick and snare.  I then copy the sections as apropriate and make them sound a bit different using unquantized crash cymbals, toms etc.

The brass arrangement was a mix of Motif and Roland Fantom patches played on 10 tracks and panned about.  I recorded it an "instrument" at a time to try to make it a bit more authentic.  The electric guitar was a strat recorded on a total of 10 stereo pairs and bounced.  Took a little while to do.

Glad you like it.

Great tune Paul. You write such dramatic music I'm on the edge of my seat wondering where you're going next, blazing guitar , horns, it's just so very good and so well produced. I was going to ask about the drums (they sound great) but you just posted the response before I could ask! And then when that electric piano comes in at the end I was suddenly on a bus going to camp with Charlie Brown,( and I mean that as a compliment). Really great tune brother!
Rock on!

Nice work all around Paul!..Love the runs you have going.. Should i call them Blackmore like or Malmsteen like? :D

The off beats are really awesome too. Yeah can`t hear the ovation too much but this is really good man.

This is impressive as all hell, Paul!   8)

Definitely an adventurous piece - more than once, I was surprised (in a good way) at where it went. The harmonized leads reminded me a bit of Bill Nelson back in his Be Bop Deluxe glory days; hope you don't mind the comparison, I mean it as a compliment.

Thanks again for the drums advice (think you mentioned that in a previous post)...I'm going to have to try that myself someday.

Correction - the electric guitar was 5 stereo pairs not the 10 I said above.  10 stereo pairs would just be silly!  ;) ;) ;) ;)
