Oh well ........

Thanks much for the comments, guys.

The experiment with FX on the lead vocal was a variation of some old tricks that I've read about to increase the presence of a track without necessarily creating a bigger audio footprint up front in the mix.  It requires a multi-tracker with the option to set 'phase reverse' on a channel.  After receiving the vox-only track from Jim, I:
• Cleaned –up the track with the Noise Supressor
• Applied moderate compression while rolling off some low EQ
• Copied the vocal track to a new track and moved the start of the cloned track to about 12ms later in time (a  very short delay)
• Copied the cloned to a new cloned track.  So, now you have the original track and two cloned tracks.
• Set one of the cloned tracks to 'reverse phase'
• Pan the original track to Center and the two cloned tracks to hard L & R.  Adjust levels.

The reversed phase setting causes a kind of comb filtering effect between the two cloned tracks which thins them out. Then the cloned tracks can be use to reinforce the original vocal track.  Really makes a noticeable difference when you switch the extra tracks on/off to compare.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

^ thanks hooper, this is a fantastic description of your experiment.  It makes me realize that i should experiment like this myself much more than I do, fantastic stuff, thanks a million.

Reverse phasing is way over my head but obviously very effective.
I knew this would be a good one with these two stars.
Great words with great production. The harmonies are ecstasy.
