*Country Music -- Your thoughts?*

I assume you are interested more in singer/songwriters, but in the realm of red-hot country guitarists, I'd like to throw in Brent Mason, Guthrie Trapp, Vince Gill, Steve Trovato, Albert Lee, Greg Koch, all three of The Hellecasters, Steve Morse (some), Tony Rice, Steve Wariner, Redd Volkaert, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Conner, Johnny Hiland, Jerry Reed, and Chet Atkins.  I thought Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were great pickers as well.

I am by no means a country fan, but since you ask, I enjoyed Loretta Lynn's album Van Lear Rose, with Jack White of White Stripes fame as guitarist and producer.

I thought it was a great way to show how country music can rock.  And it's suprisingly not lame at all.  I knew they were on the right track when I put in the album and the first thing I hear is the buzz from the amps.

The story behind the album coming to be is interesting too:  Jack White dedicated one of her albums to Loretta Lynn, having never met her.  Loretta's daughter pointed it out to her.  So she invited him over.  The next thing you know, they throw together a band and he produces her album, the first in her career written entirely by her.  It was her best experience as a singer.

The album Van Lear Rose comes across as a very inspired work.

Hank Williams Sr. has a bunch of good oldies like Your Cheatin' Heart.

Gotta agree with that. I have a load of Hanks stuff, I play loads of it on guitar, it's great, simple, the lyrics are cool and you can change the songs to whatever you want them to sound like. I recorded 'The lost highway' and 'I don't care' on the silver one and they sounded great until? you guessed it, I pressed the wrong button and deleted everything off the MBR , what a plonker, anyway I have started again
