I've been getting my Dad back into playing guitar, he's even just bought a guitar and amp this weekend. ;D

He likes Country music and I've said we will do some recordings to put on here shortly. I'm not a big fan of country music but do like some, more on the folky side I guess. He wants to record some old stuff but I thought I would ask you lot for some recommendations for stuff to listen to and maybe try?

I dont really know how many of you guys on here might listen to Country music?

Any artists you can suggest?

Ray Price, Willie Nelson(a must), Waylon Jennings,Conway Twitty, George Jones

Some "later" arrivals still old school, Travis Tritt, Dwight Yoakum, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, Marty Stuart

New country sucks imo

Hi, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Willie Nelson, the list is endless but there are many other genres he might like. The Byrds or Bob Dylan are a couple of artists that have music that is not too difficult for someone coming back to playing. Hope this gives you a couple of more ideas..............Willie

Oh yes, and Gram Parsons

;).....these are actually 2 of the small number of country artists I have been listening to in recent times. Gonna have to have a think of a good Gram Parsons tune to cover!

I assume you are interested more in singer/songwriters, but in the realm of red-hot country guitarists, I'd like to throw in Brent Mason, Guthrie Trapp, Vince Gill, Steve Trovato, Albert Lee, Greg Koch, all three of The Hellecasters, Steve Morse (some), Tony Rice, Steve Wariner, Redd Volkaert, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Conner, Johnny Hiland, Jerry Reed, and Chet Atkins.  I thought Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were great pickers as well.
