in the documentary he explained how he wrote this, he was phoning a friend and got an engaged tone rather than hang up he got out a pen and paper and wrote down the words and sang the melody to the engaged tone.

Thats soul music of the highest caliber...........insane how good his voice was...........how much feeling he was able to get across in his music.......there is a reason that Lennon adored his music.......

Harry was without a doubt a talented writer and performer. His voice tone, range and control is far and few between.

The pianist on the "Without You" single was Gary Wright. At the time, he was best known as a member of Spooky Tooth but later had a solo career with hits such as "Dream Weaver" and "Love Is Alive".

It's interesting that Nilsson's two biggest hits ("Without You" and "Everybody's Talkin'") were covers. The only self-written song he had much success with was "Coconut". That's a shame since he was a great songwriter.
