My inner puppy made me post this  :D

Another folky thing - this time composed entirely on mandolin, with a bit of added acoustic guitar and a dash of shaker. All on the MBR.

Inspired by Rory Gallagher's 'Going to my Hometown', with the lyrical twist of Tom Jones' 'The green green grass of home' - i.e. only getting to go home in a coffin. I guess it's a bit dark  ???

The Lights of my Home Town

I never should have used that crowbar on the factory door
Or got involved in what was going down
The law men lay in wait for us, so I had to flee the scene
I left behind the lights of my home town

I travelled far across the land, working where I could
And the girls I met could never pin me down
But sometimes I'd get drunk and mournful for familiar roads
And the comfort of the lights of my home town

But I never thought I'd end up going back inside this box
My nostrils full of loneliness and pine
Up that chimney I will go, like snowflakes on the breeze
High above the lights of my home town

I circumvented lady luck when I took to counting cards
I broke the house with every ace laid down
But every fast buck that I made couldn't get me any nearer
To the distant lights of my home town

I'm not proud of all the things I've done along the way
If I had a God it's hell where I'd be bound
But dwelling on regrets won't get me where I want to be
Safe beneath the lights of my home town

But I never thought I'd end up going back there in a box
My nostrils full of loneliness and pine
Up that chimney I will go, like snowflakes on the breeze
High above the lights of my home town

Yes - another one, lol. This is track one of 11 on this one. I've been making an album's worth every 1-2 months. Need to take a break!

bloody brilliant got to love that mandolin, you are oft compared to crowded house tim, but here with the mandolin it is reminiscent of early split enz, but far better.
