I've turned some local folklore from my home town into a folk song. Makes it a bit more authentic to sing of local things imo  :)

This is about the Rev. James Fielding, who was reputed to be a highwayman. His house (the finest in our town) still stands, and was also formally the home of General James Oglethorpe who founded Savannah, Georgia.

There are a few highwayman legends round my way, as we're just off the main Portsmouth to London road - a major route in the old days of horse-drawn travel.

This one has 12-string acoustic, 6-string acoustic, mandolin, and slide acoustic. All done on the MBR with a bit of sound fx added in Audacity.

Don't know about you guys, but I'm really getting into this folk thing! I blame Tharek for my sudden conversion!  :D

*************************

The Rev.James Fielding

Whenever the moon's just a sliver of light
And there's frost upon the roofs
The reverend takes to the London road
In a gallop of dark hooves

With pistols drawn and a magpie's eye
He waits for the mail coach to go by

The flock he tends in the house of the lord
Believe he's great and good
But if they knew his dark pursuits
They'd hang him where he stood

With pistols drawn and a piercing cry
It's your money or it's your life

He's a bad, bad, bad reverend

He bought the biggest house in town
And in the cellar hid the loot
Two accomplices got hung
But he escaped the noose

With pistols drawn and a wicked smile
He disappeared into the night

He's a bad, bad, bad reverend

That really is bloody magic Tim.  Splendid.

Really love the mandolin.  I'm thinking that I might have to get one.  I might be able to hide it from my wife....

Did I mention that I really like the song?

I love it.  8)

The guitars and mandolin mesh seamlessly, and sound both full and spare at the same time - always amazed at how you so easily pull that off. And I also love stories about colorful characters such as this!
